To say this is an autobiography would be to use the term very loosely. Those who are purchasing the book should be aware of this. While the volume is several hundred pages long, the actual "autobiographical" information is contained to the first 75 (ish) pages, and this section is effectively an extended interview between George and Neil Aspinall. By this I mean, George discusses something for a few paragraphs and Neil chimes in with italicized text to elaborate or give context to George's musings. The vast, vast majority of the book is scans of song lyrics with short paragraphs (or sometimes even just a few sentences from George) explaining something about the song, writing the song, or the legacy of the song.

That being said, this is a lovely book. While it may not be as detailed in the autobiographical section as many would like, the handwritten lyrics are lovely and the piece is very well laid out with beautiful artwork and photographs. Fans of George Harrison will certainly enjoy this book, even if it does not provide much by way of autobiography.

I Me Mine George Harrison 9780811859004 Books Reviews

This book didn't have nearly the amount of information I had hoped for. However, what it lacks in personal information about George Harrison, it makes up for in details of all of his songs. Half of the book is filled with these notes, and clearly he was far more comfortable sharing those memories than others.
I have not finished reading the book. I own the hardcover version. The book consists of photos, lyrics, and more. If you love George and his music, you will cherish this wonderful book.
I sadly can't say I ever knew George personally, but I do adore him and have spent way too many hours devouring his music and interviews with him and the people who did know him personally. As such, I think/hope I've learned something about who this fascinating person was.

Anyone expecting a tell-all autobiography from this man doesn't know him particularly well. He was never someone who was going to put out a book with all sorts of sordid details about his life and relationships. He was way too private for that. This is mostly a collection of his handwritten lyrics (which I find fascinating), pictures, and a conversation between George and Derek Taylor. The contributions by his wife, Olivia, are eloquent and beautiful (as is typical for her contributions to the various George projects she's worked on on his behalf).

Anyway, I'm half-way shocked he even did this book, and I'm grateful he did. It's lovely and anyone interested in George Harrison should get it.
My copy was damaged in shipping; it was put into a box nearly twice the size of the book but there wasn't a single scrap of packing material (not even those light-weight air bubble things) to keep the book from sliding around in the box. As a result, it arrived with crumpled corners. Since this book is a collector's item, it is really inappropriate to not package it for shipping in a better manner--either a box the right size or with packing material to keep it from moving.

So, an avid George Harrison fan might be very disappointed with the book if it comes slightly damaged. I wasn't too worried about resale or value and got a lot of enjoyment out of reading George's notes about what he was doing or thinking when he wrote each song. Also, make sure you read the info from Olivia so that you realize that one of the photo plates was purposefully mislabeled.
This really is a great peek into George Harrison's life (albeit an early look). As another reviewer aptly pointed out, this is not your typical autobiography. The exchange and autobiographical portion of the book in the first 75 pages or so are written by George and his long time friend, Beatles' press officer/agent, journalist and pr man Derek Taylor. (Taylor's words are expressed in italics). Taylor was also the ghostwriter/cowriter of George's weekly column in the Daily Express, as well as the ghostwriter of Brian Epstein's autobiography, "A Cellarful of Noise". If fans are looking for a closer look into George's journey, check out "Living In A Material World", a 2 DVD documentary directed by Martin Scorsese.
I received this a couple of weeks ago. I'm a George Harrison fan, so I had to have it. This is an updated version of the original, and brings everything completely up to date until his death. There are some nice stories about George in this book, but most of it contains his song lyrics, accompanied by original song scribblings by George. There are no revelations about George and Patti and nothing notable about his relationships with Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan or the Wilburys, so if you're looking for that, you'll be disappointed. Olivia's contributions are evident, and her insights are sweet. I enjoyed the book very much.
George Harrison was not only my favorite of the Beatles but was also one, as a post Beatle to establish his individual talents as musician, lyricist, composer, music producer, concert organizer and promoter, actor and film producer (Monty Python's "Life of Brian").

I especially enjoyed perusing the extensive bonus material George's catalogue of songs with this personal notes and the catalogue of films he produced.

I thoroughly enjoyed his autobiography. It told the story of a gifted individual, humanitarian and gardener.
