“Assigned A Mate” was my introduction to Grace Goodwin, sci-fi romance books and more heat than the average Kindle can handle. No, seriously… I had to replace my Kindle and I’m certain it was connected to the extreme heat in this book! Since this random purchase, nearly a year after the book was published, I’ve ravenously consumed almost every one of Ms. Goodwin’s books (except the ménage story lines… yeah, I get a little overwhelmed when required to split my focus…) and stalked her relentlessly (please, don’t tell anyone I tend to do that…). OK, major run on sentence (I tend to do that too…) but hey, I’m not an author and now you know why not! Professionally written, “Assigned A Mate” flows seamlessly with the hottest alien hero ever written and a totally lovable heroine. The world building is fantastic and the length is perfect for my hectic life… I also have book commitment issues, too many pages have me running in the opposite direction. I’ve read many alien romance novels since “Assigned A Mate” and only a few can compete with Grace Goodwin’s work.

So, if you’re looking for a really good-time… err um, I mean a well written, fast paced story that will leave you… ah... breathless (among other things) one-click “Assigned A Mate” you’ll be so glad you did!

Grace Goodwin has found a story line that can be developed into quite an adventure but she is using it to exercise a DBSM fetish that is quite erotic. The writing is good and she makes a compelling story of a woman who would normally never do that sort of thing is suddenly begging for it to be done to her again, and again. If you're a woman who secretly fantasizes at being taken by multiple males at one time, making you do all those things you would never do normally then this book is for you. I have read two of the books and I have a third waiting and so far the scenario is the same. A woman in dire straights forced to agree to be transported into outer space and be mated to some big domineering males, who are built like large linebackers and hung like English bulls who want and need a submissive mate to sire their offspring. I found the read interesting and enjoyable.
Now, this series of books OPENS with the juicy bits. They're right there on full display at the beginning. Honestly they're even the juiciest part, because the similar scene at the end feels rushed.

For the price, these books are rather short. They're more $1-2 length. I expect half again as long for $5.

That said, they're steamy, and I have purchased several after the first freebie.

This is lady spank fodder. While the plots are rushed, the steamy scenes are HOT. This writer knows her alpha males, and all sorts of delicious ways to use 1, 2, and even 3 of them. We're dealing with aliens here, so some of the cultural differences help you handle some things you probably wouldn't let a human guy get away with. These are definitely fantasies brought to black and white and would make some naughty videos! Enjoy them as light reading spank fodder, and enjoy this interesting world. Even though there are some copied ideas here, and the author obviously likes TNG (Borg, what?), they aren't enough to detract from the story and the unique ideas wrapped around them.
Each (most really) of Grace's books start with the same premise, a dream in which the female is being taken by her mates, only they aren't her mates, they are a virtual reality simulator of sorts designed to predict your perfect mate, off planet of course. Somehow, it doesn't get old. She manages to make each one unique and intense, giving you a quick glimpse of what you'll be getting in the story to come. (see what I did there?)
In Assigned a Mate, we are introduced to the Interstellar Bride program. An agreement between Earth and the Interstellar Coalition, we give them brides, they protect us from the Hive. I'll take it- sign me up and oh, I want a Prillon Warrior, but that's not until book 2.
The twist, the coalition doesn't care where the brides come from, so earth offers female prisoners the option to volunteer for the program, thus getting out of their sentences. The only caveat is that they won't ever return to Earth.
Evelyn Day just needs to hide for a while, she's not in this for the long haul, she just wants to stay alive until her trial date. And she and her lawyer decide to use the Interstellar Bride program to hide her. She never counted on falling in love with her mate.
I love this series, so far I've read eight of them, and one of a spinoff series. Some I like more than others. Grace tends to write some light BDSM into her stories, and while a bit of spanking doesn't turn me off, I'm not really into reading BDSM. That being said, she does an amazing job of making it seem believable and readable. I never felt that Evelyn was being coerced or disrespected in the slightest. I loved the conflict Grace gave her and I loved how she gave her the HEA.
